Cravenwood Primary Case Study

Computeam technical support contracts are about more than fixing computers. Our passion has always been for education, and we try to reflect this in the way our services are designed, delivered and reviewed. We also believe in creating long-term relationships with our client schools, and this is certainly the case at Cravenwood Primary School in Manchester.

Head Teacher Gudrun Heatley says:

"Computeam and Cravenwood have a relationship going back more than 10 years, and whilst no service is perfect all the time, I can honestly say that the team are 100% committed to making ICT work and always stay to get the job done. Having a stable ICT system where updates and improvements are planned strategically has been a great benefit to our pupils over the years, and I believe that the combination of services Computeam offers has helped us to move forward with ICT."

Gudrun Heatley, Headteacher, Cravenwood Primary School

It may not seem obvious that your choice of ICT support contract can affect your school outcomes, but consider the potential of ICT to engage pupils in lessons and save admin time. Or when it doesn't work, its potential to consume teacher time and disappoint pupils. We have always believed that good ICT support needs to deliver three things:

1. Proactive maintenance to reduce the instance of faults and to create a regular, on going relationship with the client school via a single named technician (This also helps build staff confidence with ICT)

2. Reactive support, without the fear of using up 'credits' or incurring additional costs. This allows staff to be confident that in an emergency, they can expect their ICT to be back up and working in a reasonable amount of time, without a huge amount of expense. Again, this makes it more likely that ICT will become an integral part of planned lessons, and will therefore reach its full potential to engage pupils across the curriculum.

3. Strategic planning - we're not experts in teaching, and our schools aren't experts in ICT, but when we come together in a strategic planning meeting we can combine ideas and match solutions to real objectives. Too much money is wasted on school ICT, spending needs to be targeted to where it will have the greatest impact, now more than ever.

When these three elements are combined, school ICT can really fly. Our long partnership with Cravenwood has seen an evolution from ICT suites of desktops, through the introduction of interactive whiteboards in classrooms and more recently the advent of wireless networks and mobile technology such as laptops and netbooks. We've kept the ICT running and tried to help the school to develop in a well planned and cost-effective way. We're currently looking to grow our support contract client base - if you haven't worked with us before, please get in touch for a no obligation taster planning meeting at your school on 0845 052 1066.
