As part of the continuing effort to replace old, unreliable copper telephone cables with newer fibre ones that provide faster and more reliable connection, the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is scheduled to be fully decommissioned by December 2025 — with a gradual phase-out beginning in 2024.
